From science to business

The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the seven BIST research centres are pleased to announce the upcoming edition of “From Science to Business”, a hands-on entrepreneurship workshop designed specifically for researchers. The course includes five full-day, in-person sessions spread over two weeks, and is organised in collaboration with ESADE Business School.

Course objectives

This programme aims to equip participants with:

• A solid understanding of the business world and how companies generate value for both society and themselves, by offering better, safer, and more sustainable solutions in food, health, the environment, and quality of life.
• Insight into the competitive frameworks in which companies operate and how value is created within them.
• Practical experience in the process of new venture creation, with a focus on the role of science and technology.
• A clear view of how scientists and engineers are essential in launching new ventures, and how entrepreneurship can be a viable and exciting career path.

Format and location

The course will take place on-site at ESADE’s facilities, to ensure rich face-to-face interaction and effective collaboration among participants and instructors.

Who can participate?

Addressed to senior and postdoctoral researchers, staff and graduating doctoral students. Researchers from other institutions are also welcome upon request and subject to availability. Please direct your inquiry to: talent@bist.eu

The final selection of participants will be made by the Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) teams of the BIST centres, in collaboration with ESADE representatives.

Project sumission and selection process

In the course, five group projects will be developed. These will be selected from the proposals voluntarily submitted by participants.

If you are interested in submitting your project, you can do so by sending it to talent@bist.eu.

Project proposals should be submitted in a document of no more than one page and should include the following information:

• Proposed plan and next steps to be explored during the course
• Brief introduction and description of the project
• Main objective(s)
• Current stage/status of the project

Once the application period has closed and all participant applications and project proposals have been received, the Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTT) representatives, together with the selection committee, will evaluate the projects and define the final selection, as well as the final list of participants.

The final list of participants will be communicated on 31 July 2026.
